| Treatment of NCAH With proper treatment, the outlook for a healthy life with NCAH is excellent. NCAH is treatable with oral glucocorticoids. This treatment not only replaces the missing hormone, but also signals the pituitary to stop stimulating the adrenal gland to release male hormone. The form, dose, and dosage schedule of all medications must be tailored to the individual. A endocrinologist experienced in treating NCAH will know how best to fine-tune medications for a particular patient. In some cases, simply replacing the missing cortisol may not be sufficient to normalize androgen levels. A board-certified pediatric/adult endocrinologist will be able to judge whether to add additional medications. In young children, when treatment is given, symptoms of early puberty and abnormal bone aging will be arrested. Acne symptoms will diminish. Also, infertility in both sexes can be reversed after a few months of treatment. Irregular menstrual periods should become regular. In males, sperm count can improve. Mood swings and anxiety can diminish. Please read Monitoring CAH. | ||
